Japan’s famous Bullet Trains (Shinkansen) need no explanation. They are among the worlds fastest, making the country’s rugged terrain seem easy to get around, over and by tunnel through. For the majority of your journey you will depend on Japan’s extensive railway network to get you from point to point.
The most highly cost effective way for foreign visitors to discover Japan is by the Japan Rail Pass, which provides unlimited travel on a nationwide network of Japan Railways (JR). Trains are reliable, comfortable and clean and even if you do not speak Japanese the network is extremely easy to use.

The JR Rail Pass enables you to travel everywhere throughout Japan as this pass covers the entire JR system including: Shinkansen bullet trains (except Nozomi), limited expresses, local services plus certain JR buses and ferries.
The JR Rail Pass is available to foreign tourists visiting Japan under a 'Temporary Visitor' entry status. Or Japanese Nationals living in a foreign country that are a permanent resident of that country or are married to a non Japanese residing in a country other then Japan.
